Digital Photogrammetry: Fields of applications
We offer optical 3D measurement techniques. Simplified this can be seen
as measurement in images where "measure" means here the capturing of three-dimensional point co-ordinates. Of course, in a single
image you can only measure two-dimensional co-ordinates (x,y). But, if two or more images exist from an object, each taken from
slightly different positions, the methods of (stereo-) photogrammetry used here enable a three-dimensional survey of the object. The
collected data can for instance be exported to and post-processed by Geo Information Systems (GIS).
Our programmes thus measure not directly at the object but in images of the object. The outcome of this are
several system-related advantages:
- The touchless measurement method permits measurements at sensitive, smooth, liquid or even gaseous objects
(e.g. footprints in the snow, clouds)
- Measure in images means that the objects themselve must not be accessible (e.g. attainable hard or only for short
time).
- It is even possible to survey objects which no more exist but from which images exist (e.g. buildings which were
destroyed in a war)
- With two synchroneously activated digital cameras also fast moving objects can be surveyed (e.g. wave surfaces,
animals, crash tests in automotive engineering)
- The method is relatively independent from the size of the object: From parts of the earth's surface (with aerial
or satellite images) to very tiny objects (exposures using a stereo microscope) a lot is possible
- Also well suitable for the own production of aerial images using micro drones or kites and a digital camera
(UAV photogrammetry)
- The images are an optic-metrical archive of the moment they were taken – at any time measurements are possible, even
long time later
- Also the images enable a stereo documentation; already simple anaglyph representations give a good spacial
impression (3D images / red-green spectacles)
- Last but not least the often time-consuming surveys take place independent from weather in the office.
